HTC launched its first money-making smartphone HTC Dream in 2008 and presently it is producing smartphones based on both Android and Windows. HTC made a comeback in 2014, in the tablet market with Google Nexus 9. HTC introduced a compact device with HTC Desire 628 dual SIM.
HTC has come up with a midrange smartphone to compete with the emerging Chinese and Indians smartphone makers. Rather than going for a usual phablet devices that most of the companies are offering, HTC introduced a compact device with HTC Desire 628 dual SIM. The smartphone was launched back in July this month. The product was launched in May and is priced at Rs. 13,990. HTC has targeted the mid-tier segment with its new HTC Desire 628 dual SIM smartphones
DESIGN
The company kept the same design as the previous version which includes the dual color scheme. The new smartphones don’t appear much special from the 626 or the 820, apart from diverse speaker grill style. When you look the phone from back, you will not be able to differentiate between the Desires series smartphone as the positioning of cameras are exactly same. The back plate has a sleek finish on the new phone which has a will have many fingerprint spot and will require constant cleaning. A strip goes along the side which gives the Desire 628 a dual-toned look. Furthermore, the volume rocker button is set flat on the frame, so when compressed they don’t give the clicky satisfaction of a button. Though the phone has a plastic body, it appears and feels quality for its price. The dimension of the handset is measured at 146.90*70.90*19.80 mm. And it weighs 142 grams. The Desire 628 comes in color variants Cobalt White, and Sunset Blue
DISPLAY
Coming to the features of HTC Desire 628, it features a 5-inch screen which provides resolution 1280*720 pixels. On the sides, the phone has a trim bezel and the on-screen navigation buttons can be modified up to 4 buttons. The users have the option to regulate the color temperature and also have three finger gestures which will make the phone easy to use.
INTERFACE
Desire 628 is powered by a 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor and comes with a 3GB of RAM. It comes with an internal storage capacity of 32GB and a battery of 2,200mAh. Along with day-to-day handling, the performance of the phone is impressive with swift navigations and manages to play full HD videos without any difficulties. Although there are some issues with the Asphalt 8, all the apps had to be closed to recover the defect. But the main problem with the phone is its battery, it struggles to last a whole day, the device has to be charged twice a day.
CAMERA
Surprising the picture quality from the primary 13MP camera is quite good. The images have minimal noise in daylight and indoors too. You get various modes to capture pictures like a full manual control mode. The shutter speed is fast, but the focus does take a second or two to lock in the scenery. However, the 5MP front camera is disappointing. It comes with a live makeup feature, but the pictures taken from it, although well-lit, provide a pastel and grainy look.
AUDIO
A pair of speaker grills is situated on either side of the display which gives the phone a very symmetric and visual appearance. The speaker features HTC’S proprietary ‘BOOMSOUND’ technology. The audio feature is also not up to the mark as the in-ear speaker volume is on the opposite side, and it causes trouble in hearing the other person on the other end especially while traveling on the street with traffic.
CONNECTIVITY AND SENSOR
Connectivity option in HTC Desire 628 includes Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, GPS, 3G, 4G LTE, and Bluetooth v4.10 and FM. Sensor options include Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, and Ambient light sensor.
PROS OF THE DEVICE
The very first thing that catches your attention is its compact form factor. The phone is thin and light, but it gives a solid feel.
The rear camera image quality is good. The 13 MP pixel cameras are sharp and quickly focus on the subject.
CONS OF THE DEVICE
The major setback about this device is its 2200mAh battery which forces to recharge the battery after 6-7 hours after an active use.
Another con would be its price. The price of the device is more than one could expect. For example, it features a 1280*720 display when its competitive variants offer 1920*1080 with full HD resolution.
FINAL VERDICT
HTC Desire 628 smartphone makes you feel good as it presents almost everything that a usual smartphone consumer may require. Although, if you evaluate it with other phones in the similar price range like, Motorola G4, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 or LeEco Le 2, the Desire 628 doesn’t reach up to the mark quite well. Though, it would have been a pay good money for a device if the price was few thousands lower.
