TCL has announced the launch of BlackBerry smartphones at the CES 2017
Last week BlackBerry announced that its smartphones will now be produced and sold by TCL Communication (TCT). And now, TCL has announced the launch of BlackBerry smartphones at the CES 2017 trade show. Although the company didn’t reveal any details regarding the new devices, chances are one of them could be the BlackBerry’s signature physical QWERTY keyboard.
TCL Communication announced the CES presentation would include a first look at how the BlackBerry’s legacy will continue to live on in a new generation of smartphones. It is quite clear that BlackBerry is placing it bet on the new partnership with China’s TCL to match up with the manufacturers like Apple and Samsung. BlackBerry in September made a valiant announcement saying that it is quitting its mobile manufacturing business and would now solely focus on its software unit. Recently, the company unveiled the Android-powered DTEK60.
Steve Cistulli, the President and General Manager of TCL Communication (TCL) said that the company would announce more news at its upcoming event at CES, which will showcase the legacy of the BlackBerry smartphone, at the same time also giving a peep into what new BlackBerry smartphone will offer other than TCL brand portfolio

The new TCL-made BlackBerry QWERTY device is tipped to the much speculated BlackBerry Mercury whose specification were leaked on the internet along with images. The rumoured device is expected to house a fingerprint scanner integrated into the space bar. The device is also said to be powered by the Snapdragon 625 CPU and might come with a 4.5-inch display. It is expected to offer a 3GB of RAM and internal storage capacity of 32GB.
In terms of the camera, the mobile phone might have an 18-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies. It is expected to run on Android 7.0 Nougat along with BlackBerry’s customization for security.
However, this partnership between BlackBerry and TCL doesn’t allow it to sell it new devices in India, Nepal, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka, some biggest markets of Blackberry’s handset.
