LG will be dropping the support for modular accessories next year

While some experiments work, with others, the companies have to go back to their drawing boards. When LG first introduced the concept of modular accessories with LG G5 smartphone earlier this year, few could have expected this experiment to bite the dust. Although, if rumors are to be believed, the South Korean company LG will be dropping the support for modular accessories next year while launching its next flagship smartphone, speculated to be named as LG G6.

According to a news story by South Korean news firm, it is quite possible LG will not modularize its next smartphone project which is rumored to launch next year. Although, the move is not surprising at all because the users often find it inconvenient and complicated to toggle between the modular accessories. Moreover, as the accessories had to be bought separately, the effective outlay of buying the smartphone went further up. All these reasons have contributed to the poor sales performance of the handset in the market. And this might be the company way to get back in the market.

The modular accessories by LG, known as LG Friend, included a camera add-on, Hi-Fi Plus, and LG Cam Plus, which was developed in collaboration by LG and Bang and Olufsen, a portable Hi-Fi DAC that can be employed a standalone portable DAC or through the G5 to facilitate 32-bit audio jack.

The news, however, did come as a little bit of surprise particularly when the LG company’s spokesperson Ken Hong in September confirmed that the company would not be ditching the modular concept in the upcoming generation of G-series smartphones, in spite of the performance of G5 in the market.

However, like every other speculation, we better wait for the company’s official announcement for any authentication.
