The new MacBook Pro has no ports that facilitate connectivity with its own product

At the Apple’s ‘Hello Again’ event in California, the company finally unveiled its new MacBook Pro. The laptop comes in 13-inch and 15-inch display variants and features a Touch Bar and Touch ID on the keyboard. The laptop is claimed to be lighter and thinner than the precursor, not to forget faster. Moreover, the Force Touch trackpad is considerably larger, and the two speakers on the edges allow 58 percent more volume. While all of this is great, the new MacBook Pro has no ports that facilitate connectivity with its own product.

The MacBook Pro features four Thunderbolt 3 USB Type-C ports and one 3.5mm audio jack; however, there are no lighting ports to connect iPhone and iPad devices with the MacBook Pro. This means if iPhone and iPads need to be connected to the new MacBook Pro, then the users will have to buy additional cable or adapter for it. Same thing goes for SD cards too.

Apple’s seems to be coming up with strange adopting this year, as one would expect that the company would at least facilitate connectivity to its own ecosystem of products. Even with the Lighting EarPods launched with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have nowhere to connect on the newly launched device.

So now to connect your iPhone devices to the new MacBook Pro whether for transferring, charging or for updates, you will need a new adapter or cable. The USB Type-C to lighting cable would cost you an extra $25 (around Rs. 1,700) for 1 meter and, for 2 meters it would be $35 (Rs. 2,400 approx.) a USB Type-C to USB adapter would cost you $19 (around Rs. 1,300).

The MacBook Pro availability in India is still unknown, although the 13-inch MacBook Pro price is starting at Rs. 1,29,900, the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and Touch ID will be priced at Rs. 1,55,900, whereas the 15-inch model will be priced at Rs. 2,05,900.
