Micromax on Wednesday unveiled video calling centric smartphones in India

Micromax on Wednesday unveiled video calling centric smartphones in India. The company claims that the smartphones are designed to promote video calling among the Indians. Micromax has released Vdeo1 and Vdeo2 smartphone which has Google Duo pre-installed and also comes with 4G VoLTE support. The Vdeo 1 and Vdeo 2 has been priced at Rs. 4,440 and Rs. 4,990 respectively and the devices come packed with Reliance Jio SIMs. The company is also flaunting the smartphones ‘metal back cover.’

Coming to the specification of Micromax Vdeo 1 and Micromax Vdeo 2, the handsets runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. Both the smartphone comes with 4G VoLTE support and dual-SIM card slots and are powered by 1.3GHz quad-core processor paired with 1GB of RAM. The Vdeo 1 features a 4-inch WVGA display, Vdeo 2 on the other hand, comes with an FWVGA display.

Coming to the optics of Micromax Vdeo 1 and Vdeo 2, the devices bears a 5-megapixel camera primary camera on the back whereas they house a 2-megapixelcamera at the front. The front camera can be used for video calling using the pre-installed Google Duo applications. Both the smartphone comes with 8GB internal storage capacity which can be further expanded via microSD card.

While the Micromax Vdeo 1 packs a 1600mAh battery, the Micromax Vdeo 2 is powered by an 1800mAh battery. Both the devices packs Reliance Jio SIM cards along with its ‘Happy New Year Offer’ that offers unlimited call, SMS, data till March 2017.

At the launch event, ShunhajIt Sen, Chief Marketing Officer, Micromax Informatics, commented that this year had been the obvious slowdown in the long term drift of Feature mobile phones as users are shifting their prefers to smartphones. Two hurdles that the company noticed were alleged high cost of data and a shortage of differentiated mass-use case. And with the launch of the Vdeo smartphones the company focuses on these issues.
