Reliance will be rolling out DTC services
Reliance jio created a major storm in the telecom industries with its Reliance Jio 4G offerings. But wait up, the company has more cards to play. In fact, in a few month, Reliance will be rolling out DTC services, which have the potential to affect the current broadband players and DTH operators adversely.
The service in the form of a high-speed optical fibre that speeds up to 1Gbps. The cables are already put down for most the country, and some pilot services are being offered to some parts of Mumbai. However, there is no conformity on the final hardware offerings. Coming to the pricing of this offering, Reliance hinted that similar to the Jio service it will also offer value for the customer.
With this, service customer will be able to access high-speed internet and a host of Jio services as well. The hardware will have a set-top-box along with an Android smart box or Apple TV that will help in controlling the content and play games
The speeds will be extraordinary for the Indian home sector where 16Mbps is seen as a luxury. With this offering, if everything is one the up and up, users will be able to stream and play HD games with multiple players. Plus, 4K videos will become accessible without any buffer.
With JioTV the company will be offering more than 360 channels out of which over 50 channels will be in HD. Users will able to use voice-enabled remote to search their preferred channel, show category and even actors name.
Broadband servicing offering television channels is not a new concept, many years ago, MTNL came up to IPTV and Airtel also has the similar offering. Though none of these has been successful.
Jio also has MediaShare which the company claims has the ability to locally play content across all your devices using the Home Gateway.
The Home Gateway will enable a better security of home through surveillance via camera, connected to doorbells and motion sensors.
Though this ambitious plan could take a few month to fully roll out. Plus getting permissions to install the Jio Fibre into residential societies and other private complexes appears to be a big hurdle. But Jio definitely stands out for being the first to offer a whole bunch of service that is allied to the web.
