iPhone SE Review: ‘iPhone’- everyone gape their mouth whenever this name is pronounced; it is a smartphone which everyone dream of owning, it even marks your status with the tag of its well-known brand name-‘Apple.’ Apple has always delivered the finest of the products that have an identity of their own; you are already well aware of its brand value. After the huge success of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, this year Apple has recently released its iPhone SE. It is the most awaited smartphone of the year, as you already know every product of Apple is eager awaited by all the tech-geeks.
iPhone SE officially marked its release in India on 6th of April, 2016 with a boom in the gadget market straight away the same day. Everyone is curious to know about its features and good looks. Some tech experts are saying that iPhone SE is like old wine in a new bottle as its internals are pretty same as that of iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. But it has some added modifications though it does not bring about such technical innovations this time and most importantly this Apple smartphone has shrunk its screen size from 5 and 5.5inches to 4inch. This means that this phone is going to be quite handy and zippy to use.
Apple iPhone SE Review: Small from Outside but Powerful on inside!
Let us speculate some more on this new Apple smartphone-
Design and Look: As per the design and look of Apple iPhone SE, it can be said that it is not much different than iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus launched last year except its smaller body which amounts to a screen size of 4inches. The new Apple smartphone is meant to address both the demand for a small screen sized handy iPhone, as well as the demand for a cheap iPhone. Just like its two predecessors, it is made with 7000 Series Aluminium which is considered to be the strongest alloy that has been used to make any smartphone till date. This phone is ideal for one-handed use as you can easily reach all the corners of the screen owing to its vintage design concerning size.
Touch and Display: Just like the iPhone 5s, the display of this iPhone is also not HD, but the texts appear sharp and sufficiently bright. You won’t even face any trouble while using the phone in bright sunlight but if you are more into watching videos, then its small sized screen would pose some problem. The 4inches LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen has a display resolution of 640×1136 pixels with 326PPI pixel density. The phone has good viewing angles and bright display.
Software and Hardware: This Apple iPhone runs on iOS 9.3 and is powered by the same Apple A9 chip that works on iPhone 6s or 6s Plus. The CPU is dual-core Twister clocked at a speed of 1.84 GHz and supports six-core graphics of PowerVRGT7600. The phone comes in two variants which differ regarding the internal storage, but both the variants have a 2GB RAM. The inbuilt storage varies between 16GB and 64GB.
The software features are quite the same as iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, but there are some fundamental differences that the iPhone SE falls short of owing to its lower price. The iPhone SE does not support 3D touch, so some kinds of stuff like Quick Actions and Peek-Pop are unavailable on this iPhone. Though the phone has a slower Touch ID, the fingerprint scanner is way too faster than other iPhones. This phone also lacks a barometer, but all the other software features are exactly like that of iPhone 6s Plus.
Camera: The iPhone SE has a 12-megapixel primary camera with 1.22µm pixel size and 1/3” sensor size. The rear camera performance of the iPhone SE is identical to the iPhone 6s, which simply means that it is a great camera with accurate camera reproduction. It has many modes on which you can capture some beautiful photographs. With its rear camera, you can even take simultaneous 4K video and 8-megapixel image recording which is a unique feature of this iPhone.
But Apple has considerably decreased the front facing camera or the Face-Time camera sensor strength to 1.2-megapixel in iPhone SE as compared to the 5megapixel strength of iPhone 6s. Hence, the images captured by this camera lack detail but the difference is not so visible unless you zoom it to a significant amount. The camera supports Retina Flash, which is an exceptional feature of the Apple iPhone SE.
Battery Life: This iPhone scores good marks in the battery life test as it proves to be 20 percent better than iPhone 6s. This iPhone has a non-removable Li-Po 1624mAh battery which has a stand-y of up to 240 hours under 2G and 3G network both. It supports a talk-time of 14 hours under 3G network. In low network area, this phone works better than iPhone 6s. The iPhone SE gains a decent rating concerning battery life.
Variants and Price: The phone comes in four distinct beautiful shades- space grey, silver, gold and rose gold. All the four colors seem to be equally stunning. Since the phone has two storage variants, hence it has two different prices. The 16GB version is priced at 39,000 INR and the 64GB one comes for 49,000 INR.
Suggestions for the iPhone SE buyers
This Apple iPhone is a perfect blend of efficient performance and stylish design under a low price budget. It really cannot be considered as low priced but yes, the cost is definitely cheaper for an iPhone. This iPhone has a handy size and is extremely light and easily pocketable. The overall experience is everything that you would expect from an Apple product except its front facing camera. Around the same price Samsung has its product Galaxy S6, but iPhone SE is way too smarter if you can manage with a smaller screen. So ultimately it totally boils down to personal preference but from the user’s perspective, this phone can be considered as a cheaper ‘iPhone’ that has a brand value of its own and indeed excellent specifications.
