Samsung Develops Card Slot That Supports Both UFS and MicroSD
Samsung revealed its new universal flash storage card last week. It has a removal storage innovation. The card is built off UFS 1.0 standard are supposed to give five times faster speed than the current generation micro-SD card, which creates a new standard in the industry.
The new UFS card would not fit into slots which are currently available on all the devices, so the adoption of these cards is becoming a huge problem. To fix this issue, Samsung claimed that it had built a card slot that would support both micro-SD and UFS cards.
Samsung has teamed up with several manufacturers to embed the next generation devices with these sockets, to begin mass adoption of UFS cards. This plug will give the users the freedom to keep using widely available microSD cards on their smartphones or opt for new faster UFS card if they want.
The new UFS cards are not compatible with the current microSD card slot as the card is bigger in size. The company said that they had developed a socket design that will support both UFS card and microSD cards. The company is also working with different partners in the industry on this integration for next- generation devices.
UFS cards have speed efficient, and they look like a very promising update to removal storage in future. These cards offer more than five times read speed and almost twice the writing performance if compared with the current microSD cards. The UFS will be available in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB and 256GB variants. The company also claims that it is ideally suited for high-resolution devices like VR camera, action camera, and DSLRs.
For now, there is no clarity on which device will have the first UFS compatible slot but Samsung is expecting to show it off on its very own devices first. We can just wait and see what happens next. Stay tuned!
